Refinance Your Home Mortgage

Home refinancing is generally the same for everyone. A few differences depends on who your mortgage lender is, and the lender/lenders that will be paid from your current loan. It is important that you understand the steps taken when refinancing a home.

The first step in refinancing your home is determining the current market value of your home. This represents the price that you could obtain if you were to put your home on the market.

Some places may be harder to obtain market value when selling your home right now. The mortgage lender who will provide your new mortgage will decide on a evaluation of your home against which they will be prepared to loan you money.

This evaluation amount could be lower than you expected, or even lower than the amount you wanted to borrow. In this case, you need to decide if it's worth going on to the next steps in refinancing your home.

If there is a gap between the amount the new lender is willing to offer you versus the amount you need to pay off on your existing mortgage, then refinancing may not be a good option right now.

If, however, the evaluation comes back at an acceptable level, then you can proceed to the next steps of refinancing.

You need to provide the new lender with documents showing your income and expenses. You will also need to show any current mortgage or mortgages you have, and what is owed on them. If you have missed a payment on your current mortgage, do not try and hide that, or you could end up with worse trouble down the road.

A credit check will be required by your new lender, and will let you know of the settlement date. This will be the day when the old mortgage or mortgages will be paid out, and your new mortgage will begin.

There is nothing hard or complicated about refinancing your home, but if you do not like filing out paperwork and dealing with banks, you may be relieved when you reach the end. Many find that refinancing can be stressful, but if you do it wisely then you will find it is worth the hassle!
